FOOTBALL

Brett Childers (East Burke/Lenoir-Rhyne)

Childers has registered seven tackles in his junior season for the Bears, including two in last Saturday’s home finale vs. Catawba.

He also recently received two special teams player of the week honors

Ben Mast (East Burke/Averett)

Mast has registered six tackles in his freshman season for the Cougars, including two in a home loss to Hampden-Sydney.

John Robert Abernathy (Draughn/Guilford)

Abernathy is participating in his freshman season as kicker and punter for the Quakers.

SOCCER

Haley Lowman (Draughn/Lees McRae)

Lowman reached 50 career games played for the Lady Bobcats, after playing in 16 for the 2023 season.

The former Lady Wildcat athlete of the year scored one goal vs Southern Wesleyan and added an assist in contests with King (TN) College and Chowan University.

Jennifer Xiong (East Burke/Manhattanville College)

In 16 games for the Lady Valiants, Xiong has registered a team-best seven goals and three assists, including a game-winning shot vs St Joseph’s Long Island.

Alexis Diaz (Draughn/Sweet Briar College)

Diaz led the Vixens in goals (6) after playing 11 games in her freshman season, including a three-goal hat trick vs Trinity Washington.

She also finished with a .587 shot-on-goal percentage off 27 attempts.

Serenity Powell/Marabeth Huffman (East Burke/Salem College)

Powell (15 games in sophomore season) and Huffman (13 games in freshman season) have each contributed for the Spirit as starting defenders.

Josue Aguirre-Escobar (East Burke/Pfeiffer)

Escobar scored one goal for the Falcons in a win over Guilford College while playing in five total games for this fall season.

GOLF

Sam Mace (East Burke/Lenoir-Rhyne)

Mace is having one of his best years yet for the Bears as a sophomore finishing seventh (210, -6 par) at the Jay Jennison Cup, sixth (207, -6 par) at the Cateechee Inv, and tied for seventh (218, +2 par) at the LR Fall Invitational.

The Bears won as a team at their home invitational by 36 shots over runner-up Catawba College.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns to the golf course to kick off the spring season on February 11, 2024.
