SWIMMING

Marabeth Huffman (East Burke, Salem College)

Marabeth Huffman had quite a successful freshman swimming season at Salem College, registering personal marks in eight individual events

Huffman also participated on three relay teams (200 Medley, 400 Freestyle, 400 Medley) for the Spirit, finishing second in the 400 Freestyle relay in a dual meet with Columbia and Warren Wilson.

She won six events throughout the season, placing in the top five in 13 events.

WRESTLING

Caleb Johnson-White (East Burke/Montreat)

Johnson-White earned a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete honor as one of eight men’s wrestling team members at Montreat College.

His 2024 wrestling season included two wins by pinfall at the Cumberland Open and the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament in the 165 lb brackets.

BASEBALL

Nick Jodway (Draughn/Marshall)

Nick Jodway used his last season of eligibility as a graduate student to serve as a pitcher for the Marshall University Thundering Herd.

Jodway has a 0-2 mark in nine appearances with one save. He pitched six total innings, allowing nine runs on ten hits and six walks while striking out four opposing batters.

Trey Jensen (Draughn/Lenoir-Rhyne)

SOFTBALL

Regan Winkler (Draughn/Brevard)

Regan Winkler is third in batting average for the Brevard College Lady Tornadoes through 23 games.

She is also third in hits (20, 1 double) and second in runs batted in (12) with scoring eight runs and being issued five walks.

Splitting her time between third base and catcher, Winkler leads Brevard in catches (146) and putouts (139). She also made four double plays for a .973 fielding percentage.

Maddison Powell (Draughn/Caldwell CC)

The season started off for Maddison Powell with a two-run homer in game two of a four-game series with Cleveland Community College.

Powell has appeared in 21 total games for the Lady Cobras, recording eight hits (three doubles), batting in four runs, scoring ten runs, and stealing seven bases with being issued 11 walks.

Katie Cozort (Draughn/Lenoir-Rhyne)

Katie Cozort has appeared in four games for the Lady Bears, recording an RBI single and being issued two walks.

TRACK & FIELD

Tommy Blackwell (Draughn/Catawba)

Starting his senior season at Catawba College, Tommy Blackwell placed 19th in the 5000-meter run at the Liberty Open and 12th in the mile run at Roanoke College’s Joe Larocco Invitational.

Mackenzie Card (East Burke/Montreat)

Mackenzie Card placed third in the women’s hammer throw at Southern Wesleyan University’s Susan Rouse Invitational.
