The first game played on the newly renamed Allen Lowman Field didn’t go in Heritage Middle’s favor falling 38-12 to the visiting Liberty Middle Knights.

The two scoring plays for the Eagles were made by Henry Cooper returning an attempted onside kick by Liberty and a fourth-quarter halfback pass from Lathan McManus to Wyatt Bonorden for 28 yards.

Other key plays for the Eagles included Titus Dodd returning a Knights fumble to the opposing 29-yard line and a McManus fumble recovery.

Cooper led the HMS offense passing for 31 yards and rushing for 31 yards while McManus registered 24 receiving yards.

Other leading Eagle defenders included Sawyer White, Larry Sarver, and Ian Meadows.

In a pre-game ceremony, the family of the late Coach Lowman, former Heritage players and coaches under Lowman’s tenure, friends and supporters of Lowman, and Burke County Public Schools officials came together to dedicate the newly named Allen Lowman Field officially.
