The East Burke volleyball team fell behind in each set but still battled in Tuesday’s home opener with former conference opponent West Iredell falling in straight sets (23-25, 9-25, 22-25).
Katherine Greene and Addy Fortenberry made key plays in the opening set as the Lady Cavaliers couldn’t overcome an early lead by the visiting Lady Warriors.
Caroline Pruitt, Allison Teague, and Kyndal Morrison each recorded serving ace points in the contest.
Fortenberry (6 kills, 5 blocks, 7 assists), Teague (3 aces), Raegan Carter (5 blocks), and Katherine Greene (14 digs) were East Burke’s stat leaders.
The JV Lady Cavaliers defeated visiting West Iredell in two sets (25-13, 25-11) led by Karlie Chester (5 kills), Hayden Lowman (4 kills), Sarah Angel (3 aces), Heaven Waycaster (5 digs), and Carissa Towery (9 assists) to start the season with a 2-0 mark.
