When did you start swimming?

Griffin Stephens: my freshman year of high school

Macy Auton: when I was six years old for the Valdese Torpedo swim team

Ally Auton: when I was six years old

Tate Jensen: when I was about seven years old

Lilah Johnson: Summer 2021

Saylor Watson: I started competitively for the Valdese Torpedo swim team when I was six and for Xcell Club Team when I was eight

William Abernathy: I started swimming in 7th grade

Favorite event?

Griffin Stephens: 50 Freestyle

Macy Auton: 50 Freestyle

Ally Auton: 200 Freestyle Relay

Tate Jensen: 50 Freestyle

Lilah Johnson: 100 Breaststroke

Saylor Watson: 500 Freestyle

William Abernathy: 200 Ind Medley

What do you love about swimming?

Griffin Stephens: the camaraderie I have with my teammates

Macy Auton: I get to not only get in better shape, but I also get to spend every meet and practice with my friends

Ally Auton: I love the friendships and memories I have made

Tate Jensen: I love how much swimming helps with baseball

Lilah Johnson: I love that you’re not just competing against the person next to you but also with yourself

Saylor Watson: I love how swimming is a challenging sport where I can constantly push myself to be better every day. I love the environment at swim meets where everyone is supportive of each other no matter what team you’re on

William Abernathy: I love how everyone you meet at a swim meet is always nice

What do you appreciate about being part of the Draughn Swimming team?

Griffin Stephens: I appreciate all the hard work our coaches put in to help us get better

Macy Auton: the camaraderie of the Draughn swim team and the way we all encourage each other to do our best. I also appreciate great coaches who challenge us

Ally Auton: I appreciate the support from all my teammates and coaches throughout all four years

Tate Jensen: I appreciate how much the coaches want us to succeed and going out to eat after meets

Lilah Johnson: I appreciate the coaches and my teammates. We have really great coaches this year and my team is encouraging and fun

Saylor Watson: I appreciate being part of a team that pushes and encourages each other. I also appreciate our coaches who worked with us to set goals at the beginning of the season and are helping us to achieve them

William Abernathy: I appreciate how our team never makes things boring
