Icard- After a bit of a mishap with the opening kickoff, which didn’t quite go the required ten yards, the East Burke JV football team took care of business early en route to a 46-0 season-ending home win over visiting West Caldwell.
The win clinched a winning season for the JV Cavaliers (6-4, 4-3 CVAC) with many young skilled players getting in on the action from the start of the season.
“We had a lot of kids that never played before, we had guys moving positions every week to try to find what works. They are a tough young group that makes practice fun,” said East Burke head coach Derrick Minor.
East Burke held West Caldwell off the scoreboard with a turnover on downs, 4 punts, interceptions by Peyton Toler and Vernon Quintana, and a lost fumble forced by Nathan Martin and recovered by Gabe Metcalf.
Jesiah Rees ran the show on offense scoring four JV Cavalier touchdown runs for 16, 35, 15, and 43 yards and accounting for 227 rushing yards on 21 carries.
Other East Burke scoring plays included a 10-yard touchdown run by Tyler Brown, a 16-yard touchdown run by Ossie Burkeen, and two-point conversion runs by Rees, Burkeen, Brown, and Martin.
Quarterback Carter Bennett also added one completion for 16 yards to Brown with Minor adding that he also contributed on key lead blocks.
Daniel Cook led the JV Cavaliers in tackles (6) with a tackle for loss as Burkeen (5 tackles, 2 TFL), Jaxson Wiley (3 tackles, 2 TFL), and Jacob Ennis (sack) also contributing on defense.
