East Burke 14, Freedom 13 (Fat Friday IV, 1977)

The first of three consecutive wins in the early stages of the legendary Fat Friday rivalry.

East Burke 7, AL Brown 6 (1979 football, 4A state playoff)

A historical win to many in EBHS history, the Cavaliers made their first trip to the third round of the 4A state playoffs after defeating a strong offensive team from Kannapolis that featured future NFL standout Ethan Horton.

The lone Cavalier points came off a Mark Isenhour to Mike Buff 18-yard touchdown pass and a Marty Fulbright point-after kick.

The visiting Wonders scored on an 83-yard drive but were held to 76 yards total the rest of the way.

Isenhour finished with 86 passing yards on seven completions.

This win also broke a 15-game winning streak for AL Brown.

East Burke 17, McDowell 16 (1980 football)

On Homecoming night, the Cavaliers pulled out a win over the visiting Titans off a 33-yard field goal by Marty Fulbright.

Jerry Young and Allen Shuping each ran in a nine-yard touchdown run for East Burke, with McDowell scoring two touchdowns.

A McDowell safety looked to give the Titans an advantage until the Cavaliers managed a defensive stand to get one more possession after forcing a Titans punt.

The winning field goal by Fulbright was set up by a screen pass from quarterback Tommy Blanton to running back Chris Johnson for 43 yards.

East Burke 3, Freedom 0 (Fat Friday XII, 1985)

The Cavaliers gained their fourth straight win over the Patriots

EB won again 20-15 in 1986 before falling to Freedom in 1987.

East Burke 29, R-S Central 28 OT (1995 football)

The Cavaliers came back from a 22-point hole at halftime to steal an overtime win over the Hilltoppers for the second straight year.

Howard Anthony scored three touchdowns to spark the comeback, which set up the extra period of play.

The winning touchdown was a ten-yard pass between Joey Smith and Trinity Hare followed by a Travis Jones PAT kick.

R-S Central scored on their next possession, but the Cavalier defense stopped a two-point conversion attempt.

East Burke 17, Freedom 14 (Fat Friday XXII, 1995); East Burke 17, Freedom 15 (Fat Friday XXIII, 1996)

These two Fat Friday wins for the Cavaliers belong in the record books to kickers Travis Jones and John Lafferty.

East Burke 49, McDowell 45 (2000 boys basketball, NW4A tournament)

The Cavaliers and Titans split during the regular season as the visiting team emerged victorious.

That night, East Burke was victorious on the home court and earned their second-ever appearance in the conference tournament championship game.

Jerome Ramsey led the Cavaliers with 17 points and eight rebounds.

William Wilkerson was also a key player coming off the EB bench to score 12 points, including a pair of three-pointers.

Watauga 1, East Burke 1 (2000 girls soccer)

An Amber Mecimore goal for the Lady Cavaliers after three minutes played in the second half and holding off the visiting Lady Pioneers for 32 minutes, including 20 in overtime, from stealing a win clinched East Burke’s only soccer conference championship finishing with a 7-1-2 mark in Northwestern 4A Conference play.
