Icard—East Burke head football coach Derrick Minor, heading into his fifth season this fall, has added another coaching position at EBHS as the head wrestling coach, as announced Friday by East Burke athletic director Jim Childers.

“I’m excited to be able to help lead the wrestling program,” said Minor, a former wrestler at Western Alamance in the late 1990s.

“With my own kids involved (in wrestling) and as a former wrestler myself, I’m looking forward to building the program.”

Minor replaces Mark Boyd, who has led the Cavalier wrestling program for the last five seasons, earning 25 dual match wins and producing seven state qualifiers, including Joshua Hess this past season.

Former Cavalier state qualifier wrestler Noah “Gator” Gilbert will remain on staff as an assistant coach.
