Icard- A winning tradition continues for the girls basketball program at East Burke Middle School with a 47-32 Foothills Athletic Conference tournament championship win over Walter Johnson to avenge the Lady Raiders only loss of the season to the Lady Jackets.
It is their first championship since a 2022 win over West McDowell and their first appearance in the tournament championship game since 2023.
Eighth-grader Sarabeth Bradley led the way with 16 points, including 14 in the second and third quarters.
“Our team played great and it was just a great experience (winning the championship),” said Bradley, recording two assists, a steal, and a blocked shot.
Other key contributing Lady Raiders included Kendall Spry (12 points, 3 rebounds), Emma Price (5 points, 4 rebounds), Maggie Mace (5 points, made 3 pointer in 2nd quarter), Gracie Gladden, Thea Gilbert, Taylor Parker, Delanie Davis, and Zoey Taylor.
“This game, we had a different attitude and came with more intensity,” said EBMS coach Kieran Smith. “I think we did a great job of playing team ball.”
